Hopefully we are keeping you busy enough across all the modules of your journalism MA but just in case here are a couple ways to fill those spare moments:
- Read Mark Briggs’ “Journalism 2.0″ handbook for loads of great tips and techniques in your online journalism practice
- Register at and take a new course with Poynter Online and the News University. Registration is free as are most of the flash-based courses on everything from editing to multimedia storytelling and reporting across platforms.
Your Mac comes pre-bundled with web server software as part of its operating system. This software (called Apache) is the same exact software that powers about 70% of the world’s web servers. Having this on your own Mac means you can practice your web skills on a real web server – your computer – even if you don’t have an internet connection.

I hope that all of you will now see how simple and un-code-like HTML really is. Once you get the hang of it, it’s not hard, and you can do some pretty cool stuff with it.
One issue that has come up a lot in the labs is that for ALL of the assignments, you MUST use your own writing, and when we move to the CMS it must be written specifically for this module.
